HC Deb 11 November 1969 vol 791 c66W
Mr. Dickens

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the number of persons relieved of paying income tax on the basis that the personal allowance was raised to £300 per annum for a single person and £450 for a married couple, and of the cost to the revenue in 1969–70.

Mr. Taverne

About 1.6 million, counting earning wives separately, at a cost of about £550 million for 1969–70.
