HC Deb 07 November 1969 vol 790 c182W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the number of local civilians at present employed throughout the year and seasonally only, respectively, at the Hebrides rocket range ; what numbers will be employed year-round and seasonally, respectively, when the extended range is fully operational ; and if he will state the estimated total wages payable in each case.

Mr. Richard

All the 85 civilians currently employed by the Ministry of Defence at the Hebrides rocket range are on a permanent basis. No other civilians are employed on a seasonal basis, nor are there any plans to do so in the future. For details of the numbers of civilians and the wages paid to them by the Ministry of Defence, now and in the future, may I refer my hon. Friend to the answers I gave to the hon. Members for Inverness (Mr. Russell Johnston), Hamilton (Mrs. Ewing) and Moray and Nairn (Mr. Gordon Campbell) on 3rd November, 1969.—[Vol. 790, c.35-9.]

Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what further local meetings have been arranged between the lobster fishermen in the Uists and representatives of Her Majesty's Government ; and whether he will ensure that all relevant factors affecting the fishermen are fully discussed at local level before ending the series of consultations.

Mr. Richard

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave the hon. Member for Moray and Nairn (Mr. Gordon Campbell) on 5th November—[Vol. 790, c.140.]
