HC Deb 07 November 1969 vol 790 cc185-6W
Mr. Tudor Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what reply has been received from the Usk River Authority to his Department's letter dated 22nd August about the possible transfer of the Usk and Cray reservoirs, the heightening of the Brianne dam on the River Towy and some yield from the River Taff to meet the demand of the authority for water ; and whether he will meanwhile ask the River Authority not to pursue its survey on the Senni River until these temporary alternatives have been examined.

Mr. George Thomas

My Department's decision letter of 22nd August did not call for a reply by the Usk River Authority. I understand, however, that discussions have already begun between the interested bodies on ways of overcoming the short-term supply problems, referred to in the letter, by the augmentation and redeployment of existing resources.

The Order authorising the River Authority to enter on to land in the Senni Valley for the purpose of carrying out geological surveys was made by me on 15th September. I have no powers to direct, or advise, the River Authority as to what action it may take in relation to it.
