HC Deb 04 November 1969 vol 790 c101W
Mr. Blaker

asked the Minister of Technology why the strategic stocks of nickel were reduced from the figure of 1,996 tons in 1964 to 1,396 tons now.

Mr. Carmichael

The reduction was due mainly to the need to issue substantial quantities of nickel from the strategic stocks in 1966 and 1967 to help maintain essential defence production during the shortage that resulted from the 1966 strike at the International Nickel Company's mines in Canada.
