HC Deb 04 November 1969 vol 790 cc121-2W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in view of the official investigation carried out in the Greater Manchester area into the availability of forms at post offices for low-paid workers to claim free welfare foods, he will take the appropriate action to ensure that in future adequate supplies of the appropriate forms are made available ; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. John Dunwoody

I am informed that the Post Office inquiries, initially in the Manchester area and subsequently throughout the North Western Region, have revealed no case in which the postmaster did not know of the forms in question and their use, nor any instance of those forms not being available. Post offices are reminded each month of the forms which they should have available for members of the public and a recent circular from the Post Office Corporation to all post offices reminded them of the need to maintain adequate stocks of current forms.
