HC Deb 04 November 1969 vol 790 cc111-2W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the extent of his Department's financial assistance towards the Forth Road Bridge ; and how this sum was made up.

Mr. Ross

The capital cost of constructing the Forth Road Bridge, including approach roads, was about £19.8 million. The Government provided an outright grant of £4.65 million. The local authorities represented on the Forth Road Bridge Joint Board contributed £500,000, and the remainder of the capital cost, amounting to over £14.5 million, was met from Government loans recoverable from tolls over 30 years. No interest was charged on the loans while the bridge was under construction.
