HC Deb 04 November 1969 vol 790 c94W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will publish a White Paper listing plainly those foods and drinks which are and which are not contaminated by the inclusion of cyclamates and other poisonous ingredients.

Mr. Hoy

I cannot accept my hon. Friend's description of cyclamates and would refer him to my right hon. Friend's statement of 23rd October, copies of which have been placed in the Library. There is no reason on health grounds to prevent the sale until 1st January of existing stocks of food and drink containing the minute quantities of cyclamates at present permitted. I see no justification, therefore, for a White Paper on the lines suggested. Moreover, as manufacturers are already excluding cyclamates from their products such a list could be misleading. We are however asking them to keep retailers supplied with up-to-date information in what is, of course, a changing situation as the new stocks come forward.
