HC Deb 04 November 1969 vol 790 c89W
57. Mr. William Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will introduce legislation enabling him to give guidance to the Charity Commissioners about the registration of religious organisations.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

The Charity Commissioners are an independent body carrying out duties prescribed by Parliament in the Charities Act 1960. I am not aware of any need to amend this legislation in the way that my hon. Friend suggests.

58. Mr. William Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many organisations have been registered as charities during the last 12 months.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

The number of organisations registered as charities by the Charity Commissioners during the year ended 31st October, 1969, was 3,111.
