HC Deb 04 November 1969 vol 790 c109W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what local authorities have brought to the notice of all the chair-bound patients under their jurisdiction the benefits of pressure seat pads ; and what steps they take to ensure that all such patients have them.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland which hospitals in each hospital board area in Scotland have for use and/or demonstration alternating pressure seats pads ; and which ensure that all chair-bound patients are made aware of these and how to obtain them through the Department of Health or the local authority before leaving hospital.

Mr. Ross

There may be medical indications against the prescription of these appliances for certain patients and I have therefore made arrangements for their provision within the hospital service only on the recommendation of a specialist. If local authorities wish to provide these appliances this is within their discretion but I have no information about the extent to which they do so. There are no plans for exhibiting these pads at particular hospitals but they have been displayed at an exhibition of aids for the disabled at the Scottish Hospital Centre.
