HC Deb 04 November 1969 vol 790 c67W
9. Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the average current account balance on the balance of payments per year for the last four and a half years and for the years 1952 to 1964.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

About minus £90 million and plus £59 million respectively.

10. Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the current account surplus on the balance of payments required in the second half of 1969 to produce a current balance for the five years 1965 to 1969 equal to that of the previous five years.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

A deficit of £20 million not a surplus would be sufficient to equal in the past five years the out-turn on the current balance in the five years from 1960. The hon. Member will be glad to know that we hold good hopes of achieving a substantially better result than this.
