§ 67. Mr Michael McNair-Wilsonasked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications if he will introduce a special low-priced television or wireless licence for retirement pensioners drawing supplementary benefit.
§ Mr. Stonehouse: To introduce a special low-priced television or wireless licence for certain groups of retirement pensioners would discriminate against people no less deserving and in particular against elderly people who have no sets at all and whose need might well be greater. One of the factors determining supplementary benefit rates is the Index of Retail Prices, which takes into account the cost of the licence fee.
