HC Deb 19 May 1969 vol 784 c20W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many British citizens are serving with the United Nations Temporary Executive Authority in West Irian.

Mr. Foley

None. The United Nations Temporary Executive Authority was wound up in 1963.

Two Britons are junior members of the staff of the Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (U.N.R.W.I.), appointed in 1968 to advise, assist and participate in arrangements (which are the responsibility of Indonesia) for an "Act of Free Choice" by the people of West Irian this year.

Four Britons are working in West Irian under quite different arrangements on development projects financed by the United Nations Fund for West Irian (F.U.N.D.W.I.).
