Mr. Ashton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many geriatric beds are now available in the area governed by the Worksop and Retford Hospital Management Committee; and how many will be available after the Closure of Carlton Geriatric Hospital, Worksop;

(2) if he will prevent Sheffield Regional Hospital Board from closing the Carlton Geriatric Hospital, Worksop until the proposed district hospital is erected at Kilton Hill, Worksop.

There are 117 geriatric beds. I have received no proposal from Sheffield Regional Hospital Board to close Carlton Hospital.
