§ 35. Sir C. Osborneasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will direct the Bank of England to cease the purchase of unlimited amounts of British Government stocks, in view of the fact that this causes inflation.
§ Mr. Harold LeverI do not accept that the Bank of England has been doing what is suggested. In any case, however, in its market operations the Bank acts in accordance with policies agreed with the Government, and the question of a direction does not therefore arise.
