HC Deb 09 May 1969 vol 783 cc144-5W
Mr. Whitaker

asked the President of the Board of Trade what increases of British trade there have been with Angola, Mozambique, Malawi and South Africa since the imposition of sanctions on Rhodesia; and whether any of this trade is reaching Rhodesia indirectly.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

Since the imposition of sanctions in 1965 our exports to the first three countries have increased by £4 million, £3½ million and £3½ million, respectively and our exports to South Africa in sterling terms have remained at about the same level. There is no way of knowing to what extent there may be some resale to Rhodesia of goods exported to these countries in conformity with our sanctions regulations.
