§ Mr. Harold WalkerAn increase in rent, whether of a tied cottage or otherwise, would not normally be taken into account in considering a proposed pay 63W increase. It could however be appropriate to take account of an increase in the rent of a tied cottage if it was clear that the provision of accommodation at an artificially low rent had formed part of the conditions of service, and that the increase was designed to reduce or eliminate this element in the conditions of service rather than solely to meet a rise in costs. If the hon. Member has a particular case in mind, perhaps he would write to the appropriate Minister about it.
