§ 72. Mr. Bruce-Gardyneasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many teachers currently employed in schools in 23W Scotland have failed to register with the General Teaching Council since 1st April; and whether it is his intention to require local authorities to dismiss such teachers.
§ Mr. MillanI cannot give an exact figure without consulting education authorities, but I understand from the General Teaching Council that about 38,500 teachers have registered. This figure shows that, while the great majority of teachers have renewed their registration, a considerable number of teachers employed in the schools have not yet done so. I also understand however that applications are still coming in, and I shall make a statement when the position is clearer.
