§ 50. Sir E. Erringtonasked the Minister of Overseas Development if he will make a statement on the discussions he has had with the Indian delegation in regard to the Durgapur steel works project.
§ Mr. OramThese were useful talks and as a result we have agreed, subject to subsequent confirmation by the two Governments, that some further technical assistance should be given for a limited period to assist in the operation of the steelworks and that Her Majesty's Government should also make available a limited amount of financial aid for the purchase of spare parts and equipment. A small team of experts will visit Durgapur at an early date to review the matter in more detail. The assistance to be provided will be within the British aid programme as announced in Parliament.
