HC Deb 02 May 1969 vol 782 cc321-2W
Sir C. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why he and his Chief Treasury officials have gone for discussions to the United States of America; what problems are being discussed; and when a statement will be issued on the result of their consultations.

Mr. Harold Lever

The purpose of my right hon. Friend's visit to the United States, which was arranged several weeks ago, was to enable him to meet members of the new United States Administration, and to discuss economic and financial developments within the two countries and the progress being made towards their respective objectives in both domestic and international affairs. A joint United States/United Kingdom statement about the talks with Mr. David Kennedy, Secretary of the United States Treasury, was issued in Washington on 28th April.
