Dr. Winstanley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how much was spent by the former Ministry of Health on health education during the last full year before responsibility for this work was transferred to the Health Education Council;

(2) how much was spent by the former Ministry of Social Security on health education during the last full year before responsibility for this work was transferred to the Health Education Council;

(3) how many persons are at present employed whole-time by the Health Education Council;

(4) what financial grant will be made to the Health Education Council for the year 1969–70.

The cost of health education materials produced by the Ministry of Health in 1967–68 was about £128,000. The Ministry of Social Security carried out no health education. The estimates for 1969–70 provide for a total of up to £223,000 to be paid to the Health Education Council by my Department, the Welsh Office and the Ministry of Health and Social Services. Northern Ireland. The Council at present has a total a 33 whole-time staff.
