(2) what objections or representations he received from individual local councillors during the period 6th September, 1968 to 1st April, 1969 regarding a public inquiry into parking restrictions in Chorley Road, Swinton; if he will indicate the number and nature of such protests; and if he will make a statement;
(3) if the public were informed of the intention to restrict parking on Chorley 319W Road, Swinton; if he is satisfied that the normal procedures of Press advertising and public notices were followed; if he give details of the procedures followed; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. Bob BrownThere were no requests for a public inquiry in the period concerned other than that submitted by the hon. Member, but six letters of objection were received. I have explained to the hon. Member in correspondence why an inquiry was not held in this case. No representations or objections have been made at any time by local councillors. The proposals were approved at council meetings in 1964 and 1966, and public notice of them was given in theLondon Gazette and the Swinton and Pendlebury Journal on 6th September, 1968. The town clerk certified on 4th October that notices were posted at each end of the road on 4th September and were maintained throughout the three-week objection period. I am satisfied that the proper statutory procedures were carried out.
