§ Mr. Lomasasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the present strength of the probation service; how far this falls short of requirement; and what steps are being taken to recruit new entrants.
§ Mr. Elystan MorganOn 28th February, 1969 there were 3,030 established officers in the probation and aftercare service in England and Wales. Probation and after-care committees estimate that there will be 183 vacancies for basic grade officers in the period up to 30th June, 1969, and it is expected that 123 probation students will have completed training by that date. The total output from training in 1969 is likely to be about 350.
