§ Mr. Whitakerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has of the number of recent brain injuries and deaths due to boxing; and what advice he gives to schools on this subject.
§ Mr. CrossmanIn 1965 one death was recorded in England and Wales as due to intracerebral haemorrhage resulting 25W from injury received in a professional boxing bout. No deaths were recorded in England and Wales as due to boxing in 1966 or 1967. I regret that I have no information on non-fatal brain injuries from this cause. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science has not issued advice to schools on the subject but relies on the discretion of local education authorities and teachers, advised by their medical officers.
