HC Deb 28 March 1969 vol 780 cc381-3W
Mr. Eadie

asked the President of the Board of Trade what mining areas have received assistance as a consequence of being scheduled special development areas; what industries have been attracted to these areas; how many jobs are involved; and what is their location.

1956 to 1968. I regret that the information for the years 1948–55 is not available and could not be provided without undue expenditure of time and money.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

The firms attracted to these areas include representatives of most of the major sectors of industry. It is not possible to show how many jobs are being created in each of the special development areas without disclosing confidential information about individual firms: but 1,330 new jobs are expected to arise within the next four years in authorised new industrial buildings and in existing buildings taken over by manufacturing firms in special development areas in Scotland, 4,600 in Wales and 17,610 in the Northern Region.
