asked the Postmaster-General what are the principal factors in the profitability of the telephone service.

Mr. Stonehouse

The main factors are the buoyancy of demand, the increasing mechanisation of the service, the signnificant technological advances made, particularly in the provision of long distance circuits, and the continuing high level of productivity.
