§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what advice he has given to local education authorities about the use of solidly-constructed Victorian schools, which are no longer used for educational purposes.
§ Mr. RossI have given no general advice on this matter, since the education authority is best placed to judge what is suitable in the local circumstances. But Scottish Education Department Circular No. 550, on the development of facilities for sport and recreation, suggested that education authorities might be able to make redundant schools available for use as bases for organised outdoor activities.
