asked the President of the Board of Trade what further consideration he has now given to the termination of the accounting exemptions presently enjoyed by banking houses and shipping companies.

As regards banking houses, I would refer the hon. Member to the Answer given today to the hon. Member for Acton (Mr. Kenneth Baker).

As regards shipping companies, the Companies Act, 1967, has much reduced the number which qualify for exemptions. The Government do not propose to terminate the existing exemptions.
