§ Mr. Ron Lewisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will consider bringing the installation of central heating within the ambit of discretionary improvement grants.
§ Mr. MacCollImprovement grants are given for installing central heating in old people's dwellings owned by local authorities, housing associations, charitable trusts and similar bodies. In other dwellings priority has to be given to the situation where as revealed in the White Paper "Old Houses into New Homes", about 4.5 million dwellings which are not unfit either require at least £125 spent on repairs, or lack one or more of the basic amenities—of indoor w.c., fixed bath, wash hand basin and hot and cold water system—or need both significant repair and the provision of basic amenities.
