§ 57. Sir C. Osborneasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will set up a committee to investigate the problems of single women who work only half time, because they must care for elderly and ailing parents, and to make recommendations regarding possible improvements in their unemployment and social service benefits.
§ Mr. CrossmanSuch women are already eligible for supplementary benefit if their part-time earnings are insufficient. They would also be eligible for supplementary benefit during periods off work if their resources, including any national insurance benefits payable were insufficient. I do not think that the appointment of a Committee would be helpful.
