But a special inquiry last year showed that in the academic year 1966–67 there were in England and Wales over 7,500 courses of all kinds, ranging from single sessions or short conferences to one-year full-time courses. The total attendance of teachers from both schools and colleges some attending more than one course exceeded 290,000. A separate inquiry among a sample of school teachers showed that 42 per cent. had attended courses in that year, the provision of courses is increasing.
