§ 29. Mr. James Bennettasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the amount spent on slum clearance from October, 1964, until the latest convenient date; and what were the comparable figures for a similar period up to October, 1964.
§ Dr. Dickson MabonIn the four years from October, 1964, onwards some 68,800 houses were taken out of use, compared with 50,600 in the preceding four years. The largest element of expenditure on slum clearance is the cost of replacement; in these two periods the numbers of new houses completed were 151,600 and 115,900 respectively, but I cannot say what part of the cost of these houses was attributable to accommodating families affected by slum clearance.
