§ Mr. HoyNone. The onus is on food manufacturers to ensure that all substances which they use in food comply with the provisions of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955. These prohibit the addition to food of any substance which renders it injurious to health. As regards those classes of additives for which there are permitted lists, it is for manufacturers to provide: evidence of safety for consideration by the Food Additives and Contaminants Committee.
