Rentonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps the Government are taking to publicise the fact that under the proposed new regulations the colour coding of the three-core electrical flexes for domestic appliances will be brown for live, instead of red, since appliances with the new colouring are now in shops, and there is danger that members of the public might connect the brown flex to the earth, with fatal results.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesAn extensive publicity campaign is being promoted by my right hon. Friend's Department to publicise the new colour code. This includes a leaflet for retailers to hand to customers, which is already being distributed; press announcements; television "filler" films; and a householder's card. The Regulations introducing the new colour code will require appliances to be appropriately labelled.
