Mr. Brooksasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what estimate she has made of the effects upon unemployment in the Merseyside Development Area during the next three years of the Government's decision to cease placing contracts for the construction and re-fitting of nuclear submarines at Cammell Laird, Birkenhead.
§ Mr. FernyhoughNo estimate has been made at this stage as no pending redundancies arising out of the Government's decision have been notified to my Department. Any effects upon employment will depend on what other work the firm has in hand and is successful in obtaining in the future.
