HC Deb 04 March 1969 vol 779 cc64-5W
53. Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the number of sixpences at present in circulation and the total number of times a year sixpences are inserted into telephones, buses, parking meters and slot machines.

Mr. Harold Lever

The number of sixpences in circulation is estimated to be about 1,900 million. The total number of times in a year that sixpences are tendered on buses or inserted into machines of all kinds may be very roughly 11,000 million.
