HC Deb 04 March 1969 vol 779 cc93-4W
Mr. Weatherill

asked the Postmaster-General what instructions have been given to local postmasters about the day of delivery for 4d. letters which are posted on a Saturday; whether he is aware that some local postmasters have stated that under his two-tier scheme these letters should normally be delivered on Tuesday; and whether he will instruct his staff to deliver on Monday 4d. letters posted on Saturday, where this can be done without delay to 5d. letters.

Mr. Stonehouse

Our instructions provide for second class letters posted on Saturday to be sorted over the weekend if additional cost is not incurred. Otherwise they are handled on Monday for delivery on Tuesday.
