asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many advance factories have been built in Scotland,

  1. (a) under the Local Employment Act 1960, and
  2. 264
  3. (b) by local authorities;

And what the total area is in each case, and what area is still unoccupied in each case.

Sixty-five advance factories have been built under the Local Employment Act 1960, with a total area of 1.9 million square feet of floor space, including extensions to the original authorised areas. Of this a total area of 196,500 square feet remains unoccupied. Sixty-four advance factories have been built by local authorities since 1964, with a total area of 0.65 million square feet. About 50,000 square feet remains unoccupied.
