HC Deb 24 June 1969 vol 785 cc251-2W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many disputes there have been in the Merseyside docks during the past twelve months; and how many wage settlements and what average percentage increases in rates, earnings, and productivity have arisen from these settlements.

Mr. Harold Walker

The Liverpool port employers inform me that there were 173 strikes in the docks at Liverpool and Birkenhead during the twelve months ending 20th June, 1969. There was no general wage settlement for dock workers in the port during that period. I would not expect to have details of the very large number of day-to-day settlements relating to particular cargoes.
