§ 44. Mr. Bostonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government to what extent his Department assists local authorities in carrying out surveys on local authority housing to determine the most suitable design features, the needs of tenants and the extent to which houses, when built, meet these needs; and if he will give details in the OFFICIAL REPORT of the extent of the use being made by local authorities of such surveys.
§ Mr. MacCollThe Ministry have a continuous programme of technical and social studies, the results of which are published in design bulletins and form the basis of advice to local authorities. Authorities have to certify that their housing schemes will be constructed in accordance with the relevant departmental circulars and bulletins when they apply for subsidy, but wider use of this work is probably made in the informal contacts between officers of the Department and local authorities.
