HC Deb 24 June 1969 vol 785 cc245-6W
68. Mr. Channon

asked the President of the Board of Trade what recent steps his Department has taken in order to prevent the pollution of beaches by oil; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. William Rodgers

As part of its continuing participation in the work of the Intergovernmental Maritime Consultative Organisation the Board of Trade recently sponsored important amendments to the oil pollution convention, aimed at reducing coastal pollution. As the House was informed on 16th June, we are also extending the arrangements for detecting and clearing spillages round our coasts before they can pollute beaches.—[Vol. 785, c. 37.]
