HC Deb 24 June 1969 vol 785 cc226-7W
43. Mr. Channon

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what financial assistance he now proposes to grant to the local authorities concerned to deal with the damage caused by the recent oil pollution of beaches in Essex.

Mr. Greenwood

As I said in the Answer I gave on 9th June to Questions by the hon. Member for Southend, West and my hon. Friend the Member for Billericay (Mr. Moonman), approval in principle has been given to the payment of 50 per cent. Exchequer grant on the cost incurred by the Southend Corporation on cleaning up recent oil pollution. Any other local authority would be eligible for grant at the same rate on expenditure reasonably incurred for the same purpose.—[Vol. 784, col.197.]
