§ Mr. Whitakerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will set up an independent inquiry into the circumstances involved in the case of Regina v. Lovesay and Peterson, in view of the words of Lord Justice Widgery at their appeal.
§ Mr. Elystan MorganAllegations of misconduct by police officers concerned in the case are at present under investigation by the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis under Section 49 of the Police Act, 1964. My right hon. Friend will consider the case further when he has received the Commissioner's report on the results of this investigation.
§ Mr. Whitakerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will call for a report from the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police into the circumstances in which in the case of Regina v. Lovesay and Peterson, the court and the defence were not informed that a prosecution witness, whose name has been sent to him, had 32 previous criminal convictions.
