§ 58. Mr. Raymond Fletcherasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give an assurance that public funds will be made available, through the Arts Council or by other means, to facilitate the speedy reconstruction of the Maltings Concert Hall at Aldeburgh, in view of the international importance of the festivals held there.
§ Miss Jennie LeeI share the sorrow which every music lover must have felt at the loss of this fine building and I offer my sympathy in particular to Mr. Britten and his colleagues. I am glad to be able to say that the insurance cover, together with the contributions from the public which have been flowing in to Aldeburgh, should be sufficient not only to replace the building but to carry out certain refinements in the original design. It is not therefore expected that any call will need to be made on public funds.
