§ Mr. Eldon Griffithsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the numbers of the staff of the Inland Revenue Department and the Customs and Excise Department, respectively, as 118W at 1st June, 1969; and if he will separate both figures so as to show the number of staff paid below £1,000 per annum, between £1,000 and £2,000, between £2,000 and £3,000 and above £3,000, respectively.
§ Mr. Harold LeverThe number of staff in the Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise at 1st June, 1969, excluding casual staff, was 65,438 and 17,691 respectively. Since most of the staff are on incremental scales of pay, the answer to the remainder of the Question could only be made available at a disproportionate expenditure of time and money.
