§ 45. Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what additional action he proposes to take in view of the evidence presented by Lord Cohen of Birkenhead to the Medical Women's Federation Conference, details of which have been sent to him, that it would be possible to cut down mortality from coronary thrombosis, chronic bronchitis and cancer of the lung by 50,000 a year if people could be prevented from smoking excessively.
