§ Mr. Harold LeverTaxation per head of the population, including taxes on capital and local authority rates, is estimated to have been about £245 in the financial year 1968–69. The comparable figure for 1963–64, adjusted to take account of changes in the purchasing power of the £, is about £175, and that for 1950 about £150. Comparable figures for the financial year 1950–51 are not available.
