asked Her Majesty's Government:

To state the total hardness of the public water supply of West Hartlepool C.B., Hartlepool M.B., South Shields C.B., Tynemouth C.B., and Gateshead C.B. for the years 1950 and 1960 or at the nearest date for which figures are available.

The figures of total hardness (mg/1) shown below have been given to my right honourable friend by the three statutory water undertakers whose limits of supply include the local authority areas in question.
