HC Deb 25 July 1969 vol 787 cc555-6W
Mr. Lawson

asked the Minister of Power what estimate he has made of the growth of steel production in Scotland and in the United Kingdom, respectively, in 1969; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mason

Production of crude steel in Scotland in the first half of 1969 was 9.8 per cent. greater than in the first half of 1968. This compares with an increase of 8.5 per cent. between the same periods in all regions of the United Kingdom combined. The result is to bring Scottish crude steel production to 12.1 per cent. of production in the United Kingdom, which compares with an average of 10.7 per cent. over the preceding ten years.
