§ Mr. Hobdenasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that certain local authorities are erasing from their housing waiting list applicants who have featured in squatters action; and if he will take steps to end this practice.
§ Mr. MacCollI have seen one unsubstantiated report of such action. The management of local authority houses is statutorily vested in the authorities themselves, but in selecting tenants they are obliged to give reasonable preference to persons who are occupying insanitary or overcrowded houses, have large families or are living under unsatisfactory housing conditions.
