HC Deb 25 July 1969 vol 787 cc566-7W
Mr. Ford

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what social security benefits are available under his regulations to former Members of Parliament from the time of the dissolution of Parliament until they are re-elected.

Mr. Ennals

The Social Security schemes apply to Members of Parliament in the same way as to anyone else. So far as their Parliamentary duties are concerned, Members are liable to contribute to National Insurance as self-employed persons. Subject to the normal conditions, such contributions give title to all national insurance benefits except unemployment benefit and industrial injuries benefit.
